I have a Brother LB6770 Embroidery/sewing machine and have a few questions about applique’ and software.?

January 8th, 2013 4 comments

The machine only came with one pre-programmed applique’ design, I would like to by a memory card for the machine with alphabet applique’ embroidery designs and can only find one standard font that I am not interested in. The customer service at Brother told me that if I loaded applique’ designs on my blank memory card from my computer and put the memory card in my machine that it may not recognize it as being an applique’ and I would end up having to do it myself! Not what I wanted to hear. Furthermore, I am upset because I have an amazing Apple laptop which I love but is not compatible with my sewing machine software. I am stuck, and upset any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I do not think you can even load designs from your MAC to a blank memory card due to everything machine embroidery being Windows based.

Preloaded memory cards can soon add up to the expense of purchasing additional software (Windows to be used via Boot Camp) or an inexpensive PC.

Once you have a method for reading Windows, you can purchase a reader/writer unit with a re-writable memory card for around $100 and forget the preloaded card.

I am guessing this would be $600 minimum for a PC and the reader/writer/card for machine embroidery. That’s about 8 preloaded cards.

Once you can download and send to a memory card, there are thousands of designs (many free) that you can download from the Internet!

which is the best embroidery/sewing machine ?

singer or brother

Hands down – Brother! This brand is the leader in home embroidery machines.

The format used is very well known and used at many sites that offer free design downloads.

Next step up is Baby Lock, which is of the same family.

I have owned both brands. Started as a newbie with a Brother model with a maximum embroidery area of 4" x 4". I soon outgrew this limitation and traded up for a Baby Lock with a much larger embroidery area.

In addition to the embroidery machine (no matter which brand you choose) will be the need for software for viewing and editing designs.

Embird is the leader in this field. You begin with an inexpensive base/basic program and then add "plug-ins" as you progress and determine a need for the additions. http://www.secretsof.com/content/1853

This site – http://www.annaboveembroidery.com/embroidery-tips.html will help you learn how to download, unzip the file and save to your PC. There is also a tutorial for using fonts with Embird.

This site has many helpful techniques and tips – http://www.emblibrary.com/el/elprojects/holder.aspx?page=techniques

Does any one have any experience with the new Singer CE-350 embroidery sewing machine?

November 19th, 2012 1 comment

If so how easy is it to thread, adjust, understand. Do you like the machine and is the embroidery that it does sufficient?

The Singer CE-350 is not available yet and honestly there is not enough difference between the CE-350 and CE-250. The only difference is the color the faceplate and the software it comes with. The machine itself is the same as the Ce-250 it just comes with editing software which is not a necessity, because the CE-250 already comes with AutoPunch. The Editing Software can be purchase separately right now so you can have basically a Ce-350 it is just green. As for the machine itself, I feel it is a great machine for any beginner or inexperienced embroiderer. I have the Brother Innovis 4000D so I know there are a lot of difference when there is a huge price difference. The Singer CE-150, CE-250 and CE-350 are twice as fast as the CE-100 and CE-200. You used to be able to count the stitches now you can not. They improved the software and gave the machine a sleeker look. They did a nice job. As for threading, It is a little tricky at first because you have to make sure you floss it in the tension assembly but aside from that it is fairly straight forward. The embroidery that comes out of the machine is pretty good I think.. Of course the Brother Innovis 4000D is going to have better stitch quality and go faster but the CE machines do a surprisingly nice job. The best deal I saw for the Singer CE-250 is Mr. Vac and Mrs. Sew. That is where I got mine because they have a wonderful add on package you can get with it (I think it retail for like $500 or Something) for only $99. They had a nice fast delivery and a charged No Tax (Because I am in NJ) and Free Shipping. I hope all this information helps. Here is a link to the Singer CE-250:

What is the best embroidery/sewing machine you can buy reasonably priced?

November 5th, 2012 2 comments

I am looking to sew together outfits, blankets, etc. I am also wanting to be able to embroider letters, names, and small characters (like disney, nickelodeon, etc.) I want to make my daughters clothes, and possibly open up a small business. What is one that is a reasonable price and somewhat easy to learn on? Thank you, serious answers only please!
As I stated on here, I was wanting to make my daughters clothes. I know that the disney and whatnot would have restrictions, and I could not resell them.

The best bargain is the Brother SE400 and just under $400. It is a combo (sewing or embroidery).

The Disney, Warner Brothers, Nickelodeon and select designers can be downloaded and used with this model.

The information will be with the machine. In fact, iBroidery is advertised on the side of the box the machine comes in. iBroidery at the Brother website is where you will find the downloads. There will also be a list of Brother models that accept the format .pen for Disney, etc.

All other designs for Brother embroidery machines will be the .pes format.

You will not be able to view downloaded designs on your PC without machine embroidery software.

Embird is the most economical program currently on the market – http://www.secretsof.com/content/1853

Before downloading (the Brother website also has many free, non-licensed designs you can download):

(1) Create a new folder on your PC and name it so you can easily find it.
(2) Choose the design you want to download and SAVE it to the folder.
(3) Most downloads are zipped (compressed for faster download time).
(4) Unzip/Open/Extract (depends on the wording of the Windows version being used) the design file.
(5) After testing the extracted file, rename if necessary for easy access and then delete the zipped file.

As far as selling items with copyright fabrics or designs – this can be done as long as the items are clearly advertised as "Not a licensed product". You do not want to sell, but when the garments you make are outgrown, you may want to put them in a yard sale.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

What are the leading embroidery sewing machines?

October 28th, 2012 4 comments

Large embroidery design area, Help with color, user friendly, used with PC or Mac, Economical, up to date and not likely to be outdated soon. Easily available technical support.

Bernina’s top-of-the-line embroidery/sewing machine, the Embroidery/Sewing Machine Artista 730E, is one of those few "best that money can buy" models. With all that any embroidery-sewing hobbyist could possibly want and maybe more, the Artista 730E requires a sizeable investment. Fortunately, the size of the investment is highly negotiable. With a list price of $7999, the actual cost of this sewing machine can vary greatly from region to region and dealer to dealer. For this reason many home sewers start small and gradually trade up to this Cadillac of models. A wise consumer will shop all the dealers in their area, selecting one with appealing pricing as well as a supportive staff.

Since learning to use all of this machine’s features can take years, you’ll want to have a dealer who can help you every step of the way. While many machines provide excellent sewing or embroidery options, the Artista 730E offers the best of both worlds. This model is for you if you are looking for one of the finest computerized sewing machines available, paired with some of the most versatile and complete embroidery options on the market. Embroidery customization on this sewing machine is incredibly versatile. Designs and alphabets can be rescaled with stitch count changes on screen. Or, for a more familiar format and complex design alterations, plug your PC into the Artista 730E and make your changes on the large screen. Using both computer and sewing machine, you can make these changes with the included Editor Lite software. A design stick is also included for easy loading, transporting and saving of designs.

The primary design storage system of the Artista 730E is what sets it apart from machines by other manufacturers. While some manufacturers use primarily CD-Rom for design storage, Bernina relies heavily on embroidery memory cards. A built-in card slot accepts Bernina and OESD design collection cards into the machine. As an alternative, a CD- Rom drive may be purchased for using designs from other manufacturers. One particularly desirable sewing feature on this machine is the Bernina Stitch Regulator (BSR). It makes free motion sewing far easier to learn, by automatically regulating stitch length for both straight and zigzag stitching. This technique is particularly useful for those who enjoy quilting and can be used in place of the stippling stitch feature offered by other manufacturers.

An extensive menu of over 855 stitches is packed into this sewing machine together with 10 buttonholes and 31 quilting stitches. A very wide stitch width setting of 9 mm also serves to set this model apart from others. As amazing as this machine is, we would recommend you test it and the few others that are available in this price range. The decision should be based on how you sew and what is important to you, versus what machine is truly "best." In shopping for a machine of this quality, the best choice is the embroidery-sewing machine that meets the most of your needs and is offered by the dealer best prepared to help you learn to use it.

Thinking of buying embroidery sewing machine…?

How hard is it to embroider…I do not have much experience with sewing machine. Mainly all I wanting to do is embroider cute graphics and customs names on baby items for a business i currently have running. I have tons of customers wanti8bng these products and I need to know how hard embroidery is. The machibne I have looked at is the singer futura because it appeaqrs to embroider for you once you put it in the computer. is this how all embroider machines work. What is the best one to use…as i said i am new to this and want something that will be easy to use and I love the idea of hands free bevause the though of sewibng a difficult design is kinda scary to me

Brother is the leader in machine embroidery. The Singers are not supported once the new models come out.

The SE400 sold at Walmart is less than $400 and serves as a sewing machine as well as an embroidery machine.

A sewing machine dealer may have something a little more expensive and they would be able to teach you how to do the embroidery.

There are some designs built into the machine and others can be downloaded from the Internet.

Before downloading, you need to be sure the design is within the size of the embroidery area of the machine – this is usually indicated by the maximum hoop that comes with the machine.

Create a folder on your computer for the designs to reside.

When designs are downloaded, most will be in a zipped/compressed file. They have to be opened and saved to the folder.

Embroidery machines will have a limited selection of alpha/numerical fonts. Others can be downloaded.

You select the design from the folder and copy to the method of transferal that comes with the embroidery machine; USB cable or USB stick drive.

Avoid machines that use floppies or memory card only as they are obsolete.

To view the designs on the computer you will need a catalog, such as Catalog Xpress or Embrilliance Thumbnailer. Cat X has more features and cost more than ET, which is only for viewing.
