what is the best software to buy with which I can design my own cross stitch and embroidery patterns?

January 4th, 2013 2 comments

If you mean embroidery machine patterns, I would recommend Embird with the Cross-stitch add-on. The package is very popular and has many available tutorials to show you step by step how to create the designs for your embroidery machine.

I personally use it and find it very easy to understand and use. It has alot of functionality and versatility as well. There is also a 30 day free trial so that you can try before you buy. You can find more information about Embird as well as available tutorials at http://www.secretsof.com/

If you mean hand-embroidery and cross-stitch patterns, I personally have found that drawing my own patterns on graph paper has worked easiest and best for me.

What’s the best needle craft for someone to start out with?

December 23rd, 2012 3 comments

I would like to start doing needlework projects but am not sure where to start.
I am thinking about asking for some for Christmas is why! I used to do a needlepoint but I forget what it was, the fabric was the same colors as the yarn.

Alice and I started out the same, with stamped cross stitch. From there, I learned other embroidery stitches, did crewel as well as thread embroidery, and needlepoint. I can do counted cross stitch, but another that I choose not to do.
My mother latched rugs, that was as close as I cared to get to that. Just was not for me.
I sew, I bead on material, I make jewelry.

I would recommend stamped cross stitch, it is easy to learn, and as you can see, can lead to other kinds of stitching. And it is generally inexpensive to learn and do. I have some pillow cases in the works right now, they and the thread cost me way less than $10, I had the needles and hoops.

Lots of sites online, Michael’s and Hobby Lobby both sell it in kits, and some individual pieces like baby bibs. My local quilt shop sells lots of cotton with designs for embroidery stamped on it, some are copies of antique designs.

And from there, you can make quilt blocks and quilts, make gingham aprons with cross stitch designs, learn to embellish clothes and accessories, learn to bead fabric [it is easy].

I have a stitching book, I think it is from Reader’s Digest, that my Mom bought me, I have learned several stitches out of it. Visit your local library and book store to see what you might be interested in. And of course, ask for the book for Xmas, too!

Embroidery machine?

December 21st, 2012 5 comments

I am looking to buy an embroidery machine. All I want to do is monogramming, like on ribbon. Do I really need to buy an expensive machine or can I get away with something under $500.00. And if I really don’t need an expensive machine, what machine would you recommend. Thank you

it depends on how large you need the monograms to be. i have a kenmore (made by janome) that isn’t even an embroidery machine but will do small (probably about 1/4 inch) lettering. if you do need an embroidery machine you could go with just a 4X4 embroidery field. i perfer brother machines for embroidery. walmart sells one that is a basic embriodery machine. it will have a couple of fonts with it. i haven’t really checked it out because i have a brother ult2002D. i have been watching some of the prices on e-bay lately and you may want to consider a used machine. here is a great site for embroidery designs. they give away 49 free designs a day. they also give away a free font ocassionally if you joing their yahoo group.

Ideas for an embroidery project?

December 19th, 2012 4 comments

Lately, I’ve been really wanting to get back into embroidery but I’ve been at a loss for ideas. As far as fabric goes, I only have a turquiose sheet of fabric. It’s one of my favorite colors and I would really like to embroider some sort of design but I don’t have any ideas. So, my question is: does anyone have ideas for a simple sheet of fabric or know of any websites with ideas. Nothing too dated or cheesy, I’m thinking of cool designs, keep in mind.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I am sorry but I have no idea what would catch your “eye” so I giving a list of the links that could help you.

Which embroidery softwares are compatible with the Brother PE 700 II sewing machine.?

December 7th, 2012 1 comment

Hello! I Need some help. My girlfriend’s mom has a Brother PE 700 II machine. Which of these programs like Wilcom ES, Tajima DGML or Melco Design Studio are compatible with that machine? Or, does the PE Design the only one that work ? Thanks.

You can actually use any software that you like, personally I use Fancy Works Studio. What you will need is PED-Basic. The PED-Basic will allow the designs to be put on a memory card to be used with the machine. Personally if i were going to invest in another software program it would be embird. www.embird.com you can try it before you buy it and with the add ons you can purchase seperately it is wonderful for anything you would want to do. it really depends on what your girlfriends mom wants to do with the software. if she just wants to get designs from the internet to her machine and maybe resize or change the design a little that can be done with PED-Basic. PED=Basic can be found on e-bay for about $100.00.
if you have any other questions please feel free to e-mail me.

Cheaper version of the Husqvarna Viking embroidery machine?

November 27th, 2012 2 comments

I’m looking for an embroidery machine with many of the same capabilities of the Husqvarna Viking Designer 1, but for a much cheaper price. Any suggestions?

Make a list of what you like about this machine and take it to a Brother or Babylock dealer and compare the features and the prices.

Ideally – you want a hoop area larger than 4"x 4" and USB connectivity.

The larger hoop will allow you to stitch out larger embroidery designs. Whatever the size hoop is the largest design size the embroidery machine will stitch out.

Some users think if they buy an additional hoop that is larger than what came with the machine, the machine will stitch larger designs. Not so. The embroidery machine is computerized for certain features and that cannot be changed.

USB connectivity can be either a cable that connects the embroidery machine and PC, or a removable flash drive. These are what you use to move design downloads from the PC to the embroidery machine.

You can get the Brother 400se (sewing and embroidery) at Walmart that has a larger hoop and cable connectivity for around $500.

You may want to buy from a dealer for assistance in using the machine and for service of the machine.

You do need to have a PC as 99.9% of software programs for machine embroidery require the Windows operating system.

You can begin a collection of designs from the many sites that offer free downloads.

Create a folder on the hard drive and name it Emb Downloads.

Download .pes formatted designs for Brother or Babylock.

Most downloads are zipped files and have to be opened or extracted and then saved to the folder you created.

Do you have to pay ANYTHING on zazzle when you design?

November 27th, 2012 2 comments

If i make an account and start designing do i have to pay for anything? And how do i get paid?

I am a seller on Zazzle and there are no costs for starting a store and adding your designs to products or using Zazzle’s design tool. It is all free.

If you want to sell your uploaded designs on embroidery products, you are charged a conversion fee for each embroidery stitch file Zazzle has to create. If you have your own embroidery stitch files there is no fee. Regular text designs that you make with Zazzle’s text tool are free on embroidery too.

If you decide to sell on Zazzle, I suggest to visit the Zazzle community forums. There are a lot of fellow sellers including myself helping each other out. I’ll leave a link to it in the source area.

Alternative stabilizers for machine embroidery?

November 23rd, 2012 7 comments

I’ve heard of a few alternatives to embroidery stabilizer… dryer sheets, freezer paper, even "sewer cloth" that plumbers use. Any others?

i would recommend you join a few yahoo groups. they discuss things like this all the time. some of the alternatives work and work well, other work and can damage your machine. the people on the yahoo groups are full of so much useful knowledge and they allow us to learn from their mistakes.
here are just a few. if you want more either do a search in yahoo groups or contact me thru my profile and i’d be happy to help.

those should get you started. i also would like to share my favorite embroidery site with you. they give away 49 free designs a day and the memberships to their site are very reasonable and they run sales frequently.
