How do you digitize embroidery?

November 5th, 2012 6 comments

I have a Brothers embroidery machine, and im trying to figure out how to digitize images. I have no idea where to start, which program do i need? where do i get it from? Is there a easy to read manual for digitizing? im not experienced, any help will be great!

digitizing takes alot of work to learn. there are many yahoo groups devoted to machine embroidery. embird is a very good program and many people use it. they do give you a 30 free trial period so you can try it before you buy it. the site is www.embird.com
i have the pe-design version 4 which is the software specifically for the brother machine. it is expensive but will do alot. i also have fancyworks studio by pantograms. i really wish i would have upgraded my embird instead of purchasing fancyworks.
i would sugest joining some yahoo groups about machine embroidery and reading there before you purchase the software.
do you have a way to transfer embroidery designs from the internet to your machine? the ped-basic is an inexpensive program that will let you use designs you purchase or get free from the internet.

i wanted to share a couple of my favorite sites with you.

what program do i use to open a zipped file?

November 5th, 2012 5 comments

i purchased and downloaded files from an embroidery design website with the PES format. i cant seem to open them, what program should i use?

From your descriiption that’s not a zipped file. Embroidery designs are commonly saved as pes files. If the file ends with the extension .pes then that’s what it is. Some Wordperfect programs can open it depending on what prog the designer used. More up to date progs that they most likely used are:

Designer’s Gallery StudioPlus
Embird Suite
Buzz Tools BuzzXplore or BuzzEdit
S & S Computing SewWhat!
Threadsmith Format Foundry

Great programs that will easily handle pes files. Good Luck !

Forgot to say that BuzzEdit has a 21 day free trial so if it’s just this one time you need to open it go for it. If you have further use for it compare pricing with the others I named.

A step by step guide on how to do sewing machine embroidery?

October 26th, 2012 2 comments

So for D&T textiles i need to give a step by step guide on sewing machine embroidery. Only half the class have used the sewing machines so i dont know. Could somebody please help. Thank you.
Our teacher said sewing machine embroidery:)

This is a sewing machine and not an embroidery machine?

Do these machines have built-in decorative designs (sometimes called embroidery)?

Are you expected to do free-motion stitching (embroidery)?

All three methods require the use of stabilizer.

The embroidery machine comes with hoops and the stabilizer and fabric are hooped together with the stabilizer on the bottom.

To emulate with a sewing machine, you need to baste the stabilizer to the back of the fabric and the sewing machine will then stitch the selected design. There is usually an open toe presser foot for this process.

For free-motion where you are the designer, baste as for the decorative stitching, disengage the feed dogs (or cover them with an index card and tape it securely to the bed of the sewing machine) and use a darning or free motion presser foot. Presser foot down and then you move the fabric to make the design. You can draw the design first with chalk or air soluble fabric marker, or draw on tissue and fasten over the fabric and trace with stitching.

Stabilizer for machine embroidery comes in tear away and cut away. Cut away is trimmed close to the stitching and left in. Tear away can be gently torn from the stitching.

Use a needle for embroidery.

I need help with my Viking 4D Embroidery software?

December 28th, 2011 2 comments

I have a Viking Scandinavia 400 Embroidery machine with the 4D Reader/Writer Kit that was working find until I downloaded the Stitch Era Universal software for free. The stitch era works Find but it stopped the 4D organizer which make the reader/writer send the design to the card that allow me to use my embroidery Machine. I get the error message "This application has failed to start because Tool Kit Pro 1122vc90U.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem" But it don’t. Now I can not remove the SEU, I have tried to reinstall the 4D program back on my computer BUT, it dose not work and the uninstall for the stitch Era is not on my Computer. I’ve tried the Restore System to return it to before I installed the SEU but this did not work. I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to All who gave me help. I had already tried regcure to clean up the error, what a waste of my $20.00 bucks. It found error but it did not repair the problem that it said it would. will try your suggestions and we will see what happens.

There are users running both programs successfully, although I don’t know why it’s not working in your case. If you need to remove Stitch Era, first do a regular uninstall from the Windows Control Panel, then reboot, then run the Clean utility:

Does singer sewing machine(model:Inspiration)has a darning presser foot&option to lower feed dogs? ?

December 28th, 2011 2 comments

I want2do free motion embroidery using a embroidery hoop,so tht i can make my own designs.Pls advise as i want2buy a machine.

The 4220 does have droppable feed dogs, I’m not sure about others also bearing the "inspiration" tag. Check the features for the exact model you’re interested in. Generic low shank or snap on darning feet are easily available.

Doesn’t really matter, though, as you can set the stitch length to 0 on any sewing machine and cover the feed dogs with something like an old credit card that you’ve punched a hole through for the needle, then taped down around all edges. Sometime when you’re at the library, look for "Singer Instructions for Art Embroidery and Lace Work", first published in 1911, and republished a number of times since — the work was all done on a treadle machine, with non-droppable feed dogs. http://thesewbox.blogspot.com/2009/01/singer-instructions-for-art-embroidery.html

On Brother’s SE-270D Embroidery, how do you evenly space letters 45-70? Also, how do you center a word?

November 24th, 2011 2 comments

I just bought an embroidery and I figured out how to write a word with the 4 printed fonts but I cannot figure out how to center it onto my fabric? It says to use embroidery sheets. Do I need to use that and what is that?

Also, for the cursive feature on #45-70, is there a way to type in the word on the machine or do I have to eyeball that with each letter? Does the cursive section only have one size?

Lastly, if I’m trying to find a free ballet, hawaiian or a different letter font on the internet to download, do you have an easy way to find it?

i have a brother machine but it is a ult2002d so i can’t specifically answer your question. there are soooooo many yahoo groups dedicated to machine embroidery. i looked up a couple of the for you and there are 2 that are just for your machine. the people on these groups are wonderful and will walk you thru every step of the way. here are the links.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Brother_se-270d/
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/brother_Disney_SE-270D_CLUB/

as far as downloading designs from the internet i’ll give you a few sites
http://www.astitchahalf.com/ has a sale every week where she sells 5 different fonts for only $3.00
www.annthegran.com has all kinds of free designs
and my favorite site is
http://www.designsbysick.com/amember/go.php?r=5647&i=l0">Designs by SiCK Embroidery Library
they give away 49 free designs a day and the membership to their site is very reasonable.

these are just a few to get you started. if you have any other questions just e-mail me, i will be more than happy to help.

have fun.
