What type of accessories do I need with a new embroidery machine?

I am going to get a brother pe700II and I need to know what kind of things I need to get in addition to the machine. Do I need a speical backing when embroidering, etc. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

You will need stabilizer and depending on what you are embroidering on, will depend on the thickness and they type you will need.
a good pair of embroidery scissors, machine embroidery thread (this is different than normal thread) embroidery bobbin thread (again different than regular thread)
that should get you started, although i would invest in some cheap fabric or felt to do test stitching on because you will always want to test stitch designs, especially if they are free.
Go through your closet and find old clothing you don’t want or need any more and do some testing on those, or go to good will to get some cheap stuff to use.

there are several forums and yahoo groups you can join.
and you don’t have to join a brother specific group because a lot of the stuff is the same for any machine.
I have two brother 8200’s and a Happy commercial machine.
this is a very addicting hobby!

If you’re buying that brother from a dealer then talk to them. They should know exactly what that machine needs.

You could also look at Yahoo Groups to see if they have any groups of member using Brother’s in general or that line of machines specifically. I know they have some for the Singer Futura embroidery/sewing line where I’ve been researching what I’ll need if I do buy one.

Generally though, you do use a stabilizer backing of various weights depending on what material you’re working with. You also may need special threads both for the bobbins and for the embroidery. And the machine may have specific requirements for those and for the accessories it uses.

It’s best to get the information either from the dealer or from people who are working with that exact machine.

I agree, speak to your dealer. There should be some lessons included with your purchase allowing you not only to learn your machines functions, but also the essentials of machine embroidery. Basically you will need stabilizer (bottom), toppers (for on top of towerls, fleecy materials), thread and some fray glue to stop your embroidery from fraying in the wash. Your dealer should be able to give you all the information that you need. Also, check out http://www.dekatzenembroidery.co.za. They have a great tips page that will give you all kinds of info, and also questions to ask when you buy your machine. Welcome to the world of machine embroidery, you will love it. Be careful though, you won’t want to do anything else…..!
