I just wanted to Thank You for helping me with getting the designs I have on a CD/USB stick to my Embroidery machine. I was missing the step of copying the designs to my laptop first and then dragging it over to the Removable Disk and that is where the Embroidery machine picks up one design at a time.. Yes, the upper and …
Yes, the upper and bobbin threading are the same for both embroidery and sewing. The only difference is the type/weight of thread you use. So you have to be sure not to mix them up. For embroidery bobbins, it uses 60 weight which is finer than sewing thread. A spool of bobbin thread came with the machine. You also wind the bobbins the same way or you can buy pre-wound. Top embroidery thread is finer, more decorative, and less strong than sewing thread since it isn’t structural. Have fun!

Hi Mabel, Glad you enjoyed the video. You could look at my download tutorial on my blog. See the description above for the link. There’s no video, but lots of pictures. It shows how to connect your laptop to the SE400 and copy designs over. For a CD, the process is the same. You just need to open the drive that is the CD and from the list of files/designs copy over the one you want. Or copy all the files on the CD to your laptop and then copy them to the SE400 when you want to stitch one.
The bobbin is put …
The bobbin is put in just like for regular sewing. There’s a clear plastic cover in front of the presser foot that covers the bobbin case. Just push the tab to the right and it pops out. Then drop the bobbin in and put the thread through the slots like in the diagram on the machine.
For light weight fabric, use a light-weight cut-away stabilizer. Be careful, not to choose a design that’s too heavy for the fabric. Choose a light, open design with a low stitch count.

Thank you for the video. I’m in the market for an embroidery machine, but am torn between the PE770 and the SE400. I don’t mind paying the extra money IF, and only IF I’m going to actually see the benefit. I like the larger work area of the PE770 vs the smaller 4X4 SE400, which leads to my question. From what I’ve read so far, the SE400 can only do a 4″X4″ section at a time. It seems you’re the SE400 pro, so have you tried a larger design?

Well you aren’t the first one to stitch baby bloomers or onesies together. You have to watch carefully to make sure the back doesn’t slip under the needle. You have to sort of turn them inside out and bunch it up around the machine. If it’s too small, people rip a seam open to embroider it and then stitch it back. Have you tried embroidering something flat and easier just for practice to get the hang of it? Like a bib or a burp cloth? Small baby clothes are among the most difficult items to do.
