Alternative stabilizers for machine embroidery?
I’ve heard of a few alternatives to embroidery stabilizer… dryer sheets, freezer paper, even "sewer cloth" that plumbers use. Any others?
i would recommend you join a few yahoo groups. they discuss things like this all the time. some of the alternatives work and work well, other work and can damage your machine. the people on the yahoo groups are full of so much useful knowledge and they allow us to learn from their mistakes.

Coffee filters! Just lightly press the filter with an iron to flatten it, out and pin it underneath the fabric. Simply tear it away when you’re finished. Works like a charm.and it won’t gunk up your needle.

Baking Paper from the supermarket – buy the cheapest. It comes in big rolls and lasts for ages. There’s no wax on it and it tears away easily.

Be careful of all the so called "alternatives". They can mess up your machine badly. I have heard of people using plastic packets too……Rather stick to the known stabilizers. Go to http://www.dekatzenembroidery.co.za. They have a tips page with a section on stabilizers used and their purposes. I know that you are trying to save money by using the alternatives, but remember the cost of your machine, then the price of the stabilizers are nothing.

I agree with "agm". The money you think you’re saving will go straight into repairing your machine.
Stick to all the proper tools. It’s just not worth the hassle.
