U.S. Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Goldberger visit to the Bedouin town of Laqiya

On Wednesday, February 23 Mr. Tom Goldberger the U.S. Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission visited several institutions in the Bedouin town of Laqiya.
At the Amal Laqiya Multidisciplinary High School Mr. Goldberger met with the Head of the Local Council, school principal Mr. Khalil Abu Aish, Head of English studies at the Amal Network Rachel Tal, and local English language coordinators and teachers. He also greeted 12th grade English Language Access Micro-scholarship students followed by Q&A. At the Sidreh Weaving Center Mr. Goldberger received a briefing and demonstration by facilitators of the weaving project. The next stop was The Desert Embroidery Center where the DCM met with women activists:
Rina Okby, Min Ajlina coordinator and Amny Athamny, consultant. At the Embroidery Center Mr. Goldberger also met with youth participants in the ‘Discussion Table’ program which brings youth together to talk about prevalent issues within the Bedouin community. The DCM also received an introduction to the Mobile Library by Nema Al Saneh, director of the Association for Improvement of Women Status, Laqiya, and Anat Sharf, resources development director. The Association received a small grant from Public Diplomacy to operate the mobile unit which distributes books in Arabic, English and Hebrew to over 1500 youth in the surrounding Bedouin villages.
