Can you embroider Disney characters on any machine?

November 9th, 2012 2 comments

I’m wanting to get my wife a sewing / embroidery machine for Christmas. I know Brother sells their ‘Disney’ versions, but what if I don’t want a Brother machine. If I buy say a Singer, or Husqvarna, or Janome machine, will she still be able to embroider Disney characters? (I know legally you’d need copyright licensing to sell it, but I’m talking about just on a T-shirt or pillow case for our kids). Anyone know a good website where you can buy embroidery designs like this?

If you are determined to have Disney designs will need the Brother brand and for the best PC connectivity, a model with the USB stick for sending downloads to the embroidery machine.

Otherwise, my first choice is Baby Lock, then Brother.

This Brother program will work with several Brother models – http://www.ibroidery.com/default.aspx?campaign=ClickOut Models are listed at the side bar. The iBroidery designs will be in the .pen format and only certain Brother models can read this format.

Before iBroidery was available only Brother D (model numbers ended with D) machines had or could stitch out Disney designs.

If you select another brand of embroidery machine, the machine’s required format may be different than the usual Brother and Baby Lock of .pes.

Most formats can be converted as required by your embroidery machine. With the exception of the .pen format used by iBroidery designs and .art used by older models of Bernina.

You can embroider copyrighted designs to your heart’s content as long as they are not represented as a liscenced product (such as an authentic MM sweatshirt).

In addition to the embroidery machine, a minimal embroidery machine software program will be needed.

Embird is the most economical and most popular with the home machine embroiderer.

Embird requires the base program and then as the embroiderer progresses more can be added, or not. http://www.secretsof.com/content/1798

In addition to the Embird software, it would be a good ideal to have this book – http://books.google.com/books/about/Embroidery_Machine_Essentials.html?id=j6e847_n3MUC

This site – http://www.annaboveembroidery.com/embroidery-tips.html will show how to do many things including downloading from the Internet and saving to the PC. There are many free designs available for downloading (avoid those from foreign countries as many are counterfeit).

Flash drives/flash sticks/thumb drives can be used for backing up the design files just in case the PC has a break down. These can be purchase for very little money almost anywhere (office supply stores, electronic stores, drug stores). They are about the size of a Pez dispenser. I have several and keep them in a storage container so they are not misplaced.

More tips and techniques – http://www.emblibrary.com/el/elprojects/holder.aspx?page=techniques

Another tip – most machine embroidery thread will be rayon. Use polyester machine embroidery thread on items that will be washed a lot or come in contact with chlorine.

What is the best embroidery/sewing machine you can buy reasonably priced?

November 5th, 2012 2 comments

I am looking to sew together outfits, blankets, etc. I am also wanting to be able to embroider letters, names, and small characters (like disney, nickelodeon, etc.) I want to make my daughters clothes, and possibly open up a small business. What is one that is a reasonable price and somewhat easy to learn on? Thank you, serious answers only please!
As I stated on here, I was wanting to make my daughters clothes. I know that the disney and whatnot would have restrictions, and I could not resell them.

The best bargain is the Brother SE400 and just under $400. It is a combo (sewing or embroidery).

The Disney, Warner Brothers, Nickelodeon and select designers can be downloaded and used with this model.

The information will be with the machine. In fact, iBroidery is advertised on the side of the box the machine comes in. iBroidery at the Brother website is where you will find the downloads. There will also be a list of Brother models that accept the format .pen for Disney, etc.

All other designs for Brother embroidery machines will be the .pes format.

You will not be able to view downloaded designs on your PC without machine embroidery software.

Embird is the most economical program currently on the market – http://www.secretsof.com/content/1853

Before downloading (the Brother website also has many free, non-licensed designs you can download):

(1) Create a new folder on your PC and name it so you can easily find it.
(2) Choose the design you want to download and SAVE it to the folder.
(3) Most downloads are zipped (compressed for faster download time).
(4) Unzip/Open/Extract (depends on the wording of the Windows version being used) the design file.
(5) After testing the extracted file, rename if necessary for easy access and then delete the zipped file.

As far as selling items with copyright fabrics or designs – this can be done as long as the items are clearly advertised as "Not a licensed product". You do not want to sell, but when the garments you make are outgrown, you may want to put them in a yard sale.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

What type of embroidery machine?

November 5th, 2012 2 comments

I want to get an embroidery machine that I can just put in what I want to embroider onto something and then let it go. I do not want to free hand embroider. Can someone help me, because I am unsure on which one to buy?

Any brand. However, Brother is the most user and software friendly.

Putting "something in" depends on what you mean.

Embroidery machines can only read machine embroidery formats.

There are many machine embroidery designs you can download from the Internet – some you purchase and some are free.

There will be some designs already built-into the embroidery machine, including alpha/numerical fonts.

Downloads or CDs have to be loaded on the PC. Then transferred to the embroidery machine.

How you get the design to the embroidery machine will depend on the capabilities of the machine.

Some use a machine embroidery formatted memory card – this type of machine will require a reader/writer unit and rewritable memory card for the brand and format of the machine.

Some use UBS port B direct connect cable. The cable comes with the machine and has to be connected to the PC for sending the design to the machine.

The best models have USB port A. You transfer the design to a flash stick and then insert it into the embroidery machine.

If you want to embroider your own art or clip art, you will need machine embroidery digitizing software and this starts at about $700.

Expect to spend at least $800. Plus another $50 or so for thread and stabilizer.

I need help with my Viking 4D Embroidery software?

December 28th, 2011 2 comments

I have a Viking Scandinavia 400 Embroidery machine with the 4D Reader/Writer Kit that was working find until I downloaded the Stitch Era Universal software for free. The stitch era works Find but it stopped the 4D organizer which make the reader/writer send the design to the card that allow me to use my embroidery Machine. I get the error message "This application has failed to start because Tool Kit Pro 1122vc90U.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem" But it don’t. Now I can not remove the SEU, I have tried to reinstall the 4D program back on my computer BUT, it dose not work and the uninstall for the stitch Era is not on my Computer. I’ve tried the Restore System to return it to before I installed the SEU but this did not work. I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to All who gave me help. I had already tried regcure to clean up the error, what a waste of my $20.00 bucks. It found error but it did not repair the problem that it said it would. will try your suggestions and we will see what happens.

There are users running both programs successfully, although I don’t know why it’s not working in your case. If you need to remove Stitch Era, first do a regular uninstall from the Windows Control Panel, then reboot, then run the Clean utility:

Hi Robyn
I personally love to embroider, so this question got my attention. I also love to search the internet so these are my findings. Hopefully they help you out:

Web site #1:
Singer Futura CE200 Embroidery designs (see www.sewingmachine-sales… ) link

"As well as being a great sewing machine for every day sewing, the Singer CE200 Futura is also a full power embroidery machine when you link it to your own PC, all the software and cables are included."

"The new Singer CE-200 Futura, the newest break-through in sewing and embroidery technology! …. Create beautiful embroidery with a direct connection to a Windows compatible computer, and create your own embroidery designs from photos or clip-art!"

"Create your own designs! – Scan a photo, use clip art and the software automatically fills it with stitches and sends it directly to the machine." (Robyn, this is where the FREE part would come in).

"Embroidery Functions with Futura software, tutorial and USB Cable:
When downloading designs from the internet, off a floppy disk or CD, the Futura software will recognize AND AUTOMATICALLY CONVERT the following embroidery formats.
FHE
CHE
XXX
PSW
PEC
PES

Singer Futura CE 100 Embroidery Machine Software/Drivers?

November 28th, 2011 1 comment

Does anyone have a copy or digital copy of the Singer Futura CE 100 program with drivers? I received a Futura as a gift but the person that gave it to me couldn’t find the software. I have the Tutorial DVD and the Bonus designs CD but not the main program cd. When I contacted Singer they wanted me to pay $100.00 to replace it. How could they charge that much for something that came free with the machine and is needed for it to even work? Singer support SUCKS!!!
If someone finds the software a link would be helpful.

One question: did you even try to find support at a yard goods store?
craigslist? ebay? Downloads from the manufacturer? I just tried the
Futura website and the have the installation software for free! Try registering the machine before you start complaining and whining.

Recommend Embroidery Software?

November 21st, 2011 1 comment

I just bought a Brother PE-770 and I am looking for some basic software that will allow me to add text to designs, as well as merge two designs into one for a custom effect. Can anyone recommend a program? Free would be amazing, but I’m willing to pay as well (though not over $200).

You should consider Embird which I highly recommend. Not only is this a very low costing but it is also such a user friendly product, I am using it for years now and I am also so greatfull to have purchased it by the right person who at all times are always ready and willing to give a support service.
Here is the link for you to see if this is what you want.
I will recommend the editor manager part for you as a beginning, and should you want to start creating more than what this part allows you, you can always upgrade.

Embroidery: how do i convert .ttf files to a .pes file?

November 21st, 2011 1 comment

I am new to embroidery and am looking for a pretty monogram font for our initial to put on kitchen towels…I can’t figure this out…trying to download a free one, but it’s in a .ttf file. My machine only recognizes .pes or .dst files. How can i convert this? Or, where can I find free downloads already in .pes format? Thanks!

Embroidery machines only recognize machine embroidery formats.

You will need machine embroidery digitizing software for what you are wanting to do. This software starts at about $1,000.

You can find many free embroidery downloads by googling "free machine embroidery designs".

Most will be either pes or they will offer pes as an option.

If you find something you really like in a format other that pes or dst, you can convert to pes with conversion software. Pulse Ambassador is one program that you can download and use and it is free. It has to be a machine embroidery format.

Google and they will come.

I need help with my Viking 4D Embroidery software?

Open the Windows control panel and then go to programs. Look for Stitch Era and remove it.

I tried this software and did not like it one bit.

After you have removed SE, temporarily disable the PC’s firewall and reinstall your 4D program.
