I have been given an Embroidery Machine and would like to purchase a low cost software program with several fonts on it. I don't know if there is a card with different fonts on it or if I need to get a software program. Please help me figure out what I need for this machine. It is a Simplicity…a few years old. Has a LCD screen and several animals and things but only two fonts.
It would help if I knew the model of your machine…..but…from what I will guess is that it is a pretty basic model. ( I have one as well and it is a real work horse..) You can download all sorts of embroidery designs from the internet…Lots of freebies out there…first you will need to know what the limitations are on your embroidery field, second, you will need a card writer and card…this will allow you to download all kinds of fonts and load them onto a card and into your embroidery machine…Now the next thing you will want to buy…..software, so you can arrange the letters into words or what ever and make your own design..but first learn to use the card and card writer….then go on to buy the software…I am using sew what pro but there are other programs out there as well…
Oh and in answer to your question…Yes you can buy preloaded cards with different fonts on them….Sorry sometimes I get a little carried away and off track from the intended question…Just make sure you look for cards that fit your machine's format…Mine is Pes and two of my machines read that format….( a language your machine understands)
Oh and the sewwhatpro software uses your computer fonts and can turn them into digitized embroidery…there is a free 30 trial for this software…But you will need the card box first…I am giving you a link to show you what one card box looks like. the one you may need could be different..I don't know because I don't know your model number..

I am looking to buy an embroidery machine. All I want to do is monogramming, like on ribbon. Do I really need to buy an expensive machine or can I get away with something under $500.00. And if I really don't need an expensive machine, what machine would you recommend. Thank you
it depends on how large you need the monograms to be. i have a kenmore (made by janome) that isn't even an embroidery machine but will do small (probably about 1/4 inch) lettering. if you do need an embroidery machine you could go with just a 4X4 embroidery field. i perfer brother machines for embroidery. walmart sells one that is a basic embriodery machine. it will have a couple of fonts with it. i haven't really checked it out because i have a brother ult2002D. i have been watching some of the prices on e-bay lately and you may want to consider a used machine. here is a great site for embroidery designs. they give away 49 free designs a day. they also give away a free font ocassionally if you joing their yahoo group.

You cannot create original embroidery for a machine embroidery machine without using digitizing software. That being said, you can get digitizing software for anywhere from $99 to thousands of dollars. There are also TONS of free designs available. Just do a search for "free machine embroidery." The learning curve for digitizing software is quite high. I have found just about any kind of design that I want already made, and I'm not into digitizing. HTH

So, I have been interested in purchasing an embroidery machine and I just wanted to know if anyone could recommend the best machine for a beginner but also a sturdy enough to last long. I am interested in the cool ones that can connect up to the computer but i am not sure if those are good or even worth buying. If anyone could help me and tell me the best places (in Chicago or online) or brand and model and a reasonable price for a quality machine this would help me lots.
Thank you so much to whoever saves me from this dilemma 🙂
I bought my first from Walmart several years ago and it served me well. This was the Brother PE150.
Because it did not have USB connectivity and a limited 4 x 4 stitching area, I upgraded to a Babylock that does have both Port A and Port B connectivity as well as accepting memory cards and a larger stitching area.
When I bought the first machine, dealers did not know one end from the other and with the help of books and the Internet, I taught myself how to stabilize, hoop and embroider. http://www.amazon.com/Embroidery-Machine-Essentials-Stabilize-Decorative/dp/0873419995/ref=pd_sim_k_3
Embroidery machines have some built-in designs and fonts, but for access to millions of designs (many are free), you need to download from the Internet (it is also the least expensive method).
Port A USB accepts a flash drive/stick/memory drive/thumb drive – they go by many names and I have several brands – all accepted by the Babylock.
Port B USB is a cable that comes with the embroidery machine. You need to have the PC (MAC is not compatible without purchasing additional hardware/software so it can read Windows) within approx 4' of the embroidery machine to send designs from the PC to the embroidery machine. The cable does not have to be left connected once the designs are transferred.
Brother is the leader in embroidery machines and Babylock is of the same family, only a little more expensive.
The Brother PE 770 would be ideal – larger hoop and flash stick. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?rlz=1T4TSHB_enUS260US260&q=brother+embroidery+machines&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=10345458999759000893&ei=npU4TNP3GoP9nAfSvMWFBA&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CDoQ8wIwAg#
If you also want to do sewing as well as embroidery, shop for a combo. They are a little more expensive than an embroidery only machine.
I think the one you are referring to as being connected to a PC is one of the Singer models. Some love this and some have a lot of issues with the software and updates.
I am not sure the the Singer model that came with digitizing software is any longer available or supported by Singer.
Visit sewing machine dealers and ask for demos. Take notes. And then review those notes at home. Purchase where you were the most comfortable with the staff, or take a plunge and buy online or at Walmart.
Remember – a dealer may not be real happy to service a machine that is under warranty if it was not purchased from them.

How do I download images from the internet into my Janome Memory Craft (MC) 200E embroidery machine?
I bought the USB flash drive and when I download files off the internet, it says it can't work (or something.) Is there a step I'm missing in order to get my machine to recognize the files?
what is the extension on the file? most embroidery designs are in zip format when you download them. the file format you need is either sew or jef, i'm not sure because i haven't worked with a janome machine for awhile. you need to unzip the file before you use it. here are a few embroidery groups i belong to. the people on them are great and you will get so much information from them.

have fun.
