Is lead in all stoneware, or only those with colorful and intricate designs? Help me, please? Need to know!?

June 5th, 2012 1 comment

Ookay. I have some Stoneware and Ceramic Plates, and I realize that essentially 90% of glazed dinnerware is contaminated with lead, in sufficiently high enough quantities that people have actually gotten lead poisoning from eating off of and storing food in these things.

I have a few Stoneware plates that were made in Japan, and are probably seven or eight years old. They are solid white, and although they have a few ridge-like designs imprinted as embroidery around the top edges, have no colors. Does this mean that they’re probably lead free, or could the glaze still be ridden and laden with lead content?

In addition – my parents refuse to convert to glass dinnerware, and insist on using what is obviously a threat and danger to both their own, and my health also – especially mine, moreover, since I’m only in my teens, and my brain still has some developing left to do.

I intend to put my foot down and refuse to eat off any ceramic or stoneware dinnerware – only things made of glass (not lead crystal, of course). But this still beckons the question: "Can anything else that’s put in the washer with the ceramics and stoneware get contaminated with lead?"
Actually, Gary, lead was found to be just as prevalent in the glaze of ceramic and stoneware dinnerware made in the United States and in Europe, as it was in products imported in from developing countries with less stringent standards.

Nobody is safe.

If it was made as dinnerware in Japan only 8 years ago, it probably does not contain lead. You might be able to find the website for the manufacturer. Most of the recent Pb poisoning from pottery glaze (it is typically the glaze and not the ceramic itself) comes from the developing countries, Mexico, central america, SE asia, etc. I doubt that 90% of glazed dinnerware poses any threat of poisoning people. People have been eating off of ceramic plates for a long time. There are tests that can be done. People who inspect houses for Pb paint often use X-ray fluorescence which could be used on the ceramic without damaging it.

Buy Downloads for Embroidery Images?[I don’t know anything..]?

I want to buy an embroidery machine for myself in a couple years[when I have more money and experience] but I don’t really know how the USB adaption works
Is it one of those things like when you legally go download a song, you have to buy it? Or can you get a free pre-made image? Is there sites for that sort of thing? Are you able to use any image?
And when you use multiple colors on the image, can your machine automatically change threads[like, you put the threads in a certain order or what?]
Honestly, I’m a real newbie in this field. As you can probably tell.
I would also appreciate your bran preference for these machines.

You can download free designs as well as purchased designs from the Internet.

If you purchase an embroidery machine with a Port A USB connection, you will be using a flash drive/memory stitch to load from the PC.

If you purchase an embroidery machine with a Port B USB connection, there will be a cable with the machine that you use to connect to the PC for loading the designs to the embroidery machine.

Only a multi-head embroidery machine can load different colors of thread.

You may want to start with the Brother model sold at Walmart that has the USB Port B cable to see it this is the craft for you. It is around $400. With this type (home embroidery machine), the machine will stop when the color change is needed and you re-thread the machine with the next color.

The multi-head machines cost several thousand dollars.

Visit sewing machine dealers for a demo of how the machine works. If you are a minor, take a parent or guardian with you as the store will not want to take the time for someone who is underage.

My preferences are Brother and Babylock brands.

I want cool floral embroidery designs that can be designed on salwars

While I don’t know of a particular site, I suggest doing a web search, free embroidery designs, or, free embroidery tutorials. Also, do a separate search for embroidery artists and if you find any, check their site for free designs-and be sure to check their links page if they have one.

Where can I find free HAND embroidery designs? Or neat HAND embroidery designs to buy?

December 18th, 2011 8 comments

I want some modern HAND embroidery patterns. Not Veggies with the days of the week!

Why dont you make your own? I have a hard time finding what I like also, and no one knows what I like better than me!

Some small graph paper and a pencil goes a LONG way to creating designs you will love!!

If you cant draw or this idea intimidates you, get a picture or design you like, put the graph paper on top of it and trace it. Then make a pattern for it based on the blocks you drew on.

On Brother’s SE-270D Embroidery, how do you evenly space letters 45-70? Also, how do you center a word?

November 24th, 2011 2 comments

I just bought an embroidery and I figured out how to write a word with the 4 printed fonts but I cannot figure out how to center it onto my fabric? It says to use embroidery sheets. Do I need to use that and what is that?

Also, for the cursive feature on #45-70, is there a way to type in the word on the machine or do I have to eyeball that with each letter? Does the cursive section only have one size?

Lastly, if I’m trying to find a free ballet, hawaiian or a different letter font on the internet to download, do you have an easy way to find it?

i have a brother machine but it is a ult2002d so i can’t specifically answer your question. there are soooooo many yahoo groups dedicated to machine embroidery. i looked up a couple of the for you and there are 2 that are just for your machine. the people on these groups are wonderful and will walk you thru every step of the way. here are the links.

Does any one have website for FREE machine embroidery designs? I want to play a bit before I get serious.?

I have a new embroidery machine and am just learning. I don’t want to purchase designs until I know I can do them.

there are soooooooo many free embroidery designs out there that i doubt anyone can list all the sites. many digitizers give a sample of their work away to encourage you to purchase their designs. i’m going to list a couple of my favorites but all you have to do is a search for machine embroidery designs, i’m not sure i have ever found a site that doesn’t give away at least one freebie.

this digitizer is awesome. each week she puts 10 of her collections on sale for $3 each. she was one of the first. she also has free designs on some of her pages.

one of my favorite sites gives away 49 free designs a day and the membership to their site is very reasonable and well worth the money.
