We produce beading sequins works & hand embroidery see http://www.lowellcraft.com
EMBROIDERY:-
Embroidery is the art or handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with needle and thread or yarn. Embroidery may also incorporate other materials such as metal strips, pearls, beads, quills, and sequins.
A characteristic of embroidery is that the basic techniques or stitches of the earliest work—chain stitch, buttonhole or blanket stitch, running stitch, satin stitch, cross stitch—remain the fundamental techniques of hand embroidery today.
Embroidered in the patterns of Nakshi, Saadi, Chikhan, Ari, Zardozi, Wasli, Gota and Kohra

Free-Motion Embroidered Portrait by Michael-Birch Pierce

February 13th, 2013 21 comments

Embroidered Portrait by Michael-Birch Pierce, MFA candidate in Fibers at Savannah College of Art and Design

www.michaelbirchpierce.com

This is one in a series of free-motion embroidered portraits. All portraits are done from life, in one sitting, and are completely unplanned. No preliminary drawing or sketching, just an impulsive gesture drawing using the machine. My goal with these pieces is to find life in the machine. I am pushing it to its limits to break away from the tight, restricted, measured stitches that is indicative of machine embroidery. The result is long, loose lines with a hand drawn quality. The process provides an intermediary between me and my drawing, causing me to connect with the surface in a totally new way.

Thanks for viewing everyone! Please take the time to check out the work of my studio mates that you can see in the background. At the beginning you can see the work of Kate De Para – katedepara.blogspot.com and Maggie Horne – www.maggiejayhorne.com At the end, you can see an amazing sculpture by Kristie Carlisle Duncan – www.thefamilychicken.com

Free Motion Embroidery

Watching Paul Nosa (www.pnosa.com) work some magic with a free hand embroidery piece.

From his site: “I draw with a sewing machine.
With a portable table, I sew people’s imagination.
I power my machine with a solar panel and/or bicycle electric generator. It’s my mission to help people use their creativity, provide a tangible patch of their ideas, and teach how to build alternative energy sources.”
