Simplicity Software?

December 23rd, 2012 1 comment

I have been given an Embroidery Machine and would like to purchase a low cost software program with several fonts on it. I don’t know if there is a card with different fonts on it or if I need to get a software program. Please help me figure out what I need for this machine. It is a Simplicity…a few years old. Has a LCD screen and several animals and things but only two fonts.

It would help if I knew the model of your machine…..but…from what I will guess is that it is a pretty basic model. ( I have one as well and it is a real work horse..) You can download all sorts of embroidery designs from the internet…Lots of freebies out there…first you will need to know what the limitations are on your embroidery field, second, you will need a card writer and card…this will allow you to download all kinds of fonts and load them onto a card and into your embroidery machine…Now the next thing you will want to buy…..software, so you can arrange the letters into words or what ever and make your own design..but first learn to use the card and card writer….then go on to buy the software…I am using sew what pro but there are other programs out there as well…
Oh and in answer to your question…Yes you can buy preloaded cards with different fonts on them….Sorry sometimes I get a little carried away and off track from the intended question…Just make sure you look for cards that fit your machine’s format…Mine is Pes and two of my machines read that format….( a language your machine understands)
Oh and the sewwhatpro software uses your computer fonts and can turn them into digitized embroidery…there is a free 30 trial for this software…But you will need the card box first…I am giving you a link to show you what one card box looks like. the one you may need could be different..I don’t know because I don’t know your model number..

Embroidery machine?

December 21st, 2012 5 comments

I am looking to buy an embroidery machine. All I want to do is monogramming, like on ribbon. Do I really need to buy an expensive machine or can I get away with something under $500.00. And if I really don’t need an expensive machine, what machine would you recommend. Thank you

it depends on how large you need the monograms to be. i have a kenmore (made by janome) that isn’t even an embroidery machine but will do small (probably about 1/4 inch) lettering. if you do need an embroidery machine you could go with just a 4X4 embroidery field. i perfer brother machines for embroidery. walmart sells one that is a basic embriodery machine. it will have a couple of fonts with it. i haven’t really checked it out because i have a brother ult2002D. i have been watching some of the prices on e-bay lately and you may want to consider a used machine. here is a great site for embroidery designs. they give away 49 free designs a day. they also give away a free font ocassionally if you joing their yahoo group.

Ideas for an embroidery project?

December 19th, 2012 4 comments

Lately, I’ve been really wanting to get back into embroidery but I’ve been at a loss for ideas. As far as fabric goes, I only have a turquiose sheet of fabric. It’s one of my favorite colors and I would really like to embroider some sort of design but I don’t have any ideas. So, my question is: does anyone have ideas for a simple sheet of fabric or know of any websites with ideas. Nothing too dated or cheesy, I’m thinking of cool designs, keep in mind.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I am sorry but I have no idea what would catch your “eye” so I giving a list of the links that could help you.

I need a recommendation on Paypal shopping cart software, that supports downloads after buying?

December 17th, 2012 1 comment

The shopping cart must be able to accept a Paypal payment, then enable the purchaser to download the file they just purchased.

Specifically, I have digitized embroidery alphabets available. Hobby embroiderers would use them for cool lettering fonts. They can buy them from my web site through Paypal now, but I have to ship them a CD containing the fonts. I think my sales would improve if they could simply download a zip file of the fonts after they pay, but I don’t even begin to know where to look for a shoppng cart package to support that, and I sure can’t program it myself. Any help is appreciated.

osCommerce is a shopping cart system that is open source code that has mods that allow for downloads. Also PayPal is available. Getting the osCommerce setup is tricky and there are some companies that have ones set up with the popular MODS. I was going to do it with my Lunar Pages but I need to get Sercurity certs and I decided not to go to all of this trouble. I might have been better off to subscribe to the Services that have the OsCommerce already with the popular mods.

If you do do this on your own, you will need plenty of PHP programming familarity. It is a good idea to know a little about PHP anyway. If you go with a service that offers you the already customized OS Commerce (http://www.oscdox.com/ is one has MODS configures), you are better off. It is more $$$ then my Lunar pages. My Lunar pages are about $20 a month. If you go it alone, you will need to keep up on Securty problems and be ready to put patches in.

The OSCommerce is one of the less expensive solutions. Other solutions could be very expensive. There is CubeCart that might be easier. You need to buy the downlaod module from a third party. Basic CubeCart is also free & open source. The OSCommerce is much mote robust but harder.

Other cart systems with downloads prob. don’t support PayPal & might be very, very expensive. It is expensive to pay a programmer.

I wish that I recalled the OSCommerce site that had good support and that offered a ready off the shelf OSCommerce with many MODS. Do a search in Google for OSCommerce. You will find more info on this cart system.

Also, there are Embroidery Malls that will sell your designs for you. Just be sure that you can live with their terms. You can sell via Embird if you own Embird software. I have some designs there but got no traffic. Embird is www.embird.com. I have tried ebay but too many sellers and one needs to lower their prices. I have sold via eBay. For eBay you need to email the files to the customer after they pay. At eBay the fees are too high. If you can get one of these carts working, that would be ideal. The cart could be a goal and one could start selling & emailing the designs. Criswell emails her designs to people. Of course she is well known.

With the cart system and downloads, the major problem is that you can be ripped off by buyers who have stolen credit cards. Yet, I would think that such problems that I’ve read about in carts & auto=downloads are in industries such as music that have plenty of crooks available. So far embroidery still is a small industry, yet now we are experiencing too many sellers, selling too cheap & not enough buyers. So, I don’t want to discourage you from the cart System but just be aware of what you are up against.

Brother Embroidery Machine and PED Basic software Help?

December 15th, 2012 2 comments

How do I connect font characters to spell a word? I want to embroider my daughters name on something using a font I downloaded from the internet. I cannot group the characters together on my machine. Is there any way to do this?
Thank you so much! That is helpful. I wish I could do it with what I have 🙁

I am afraid not. You can combine the letters already built into the machine.

You will need an editing software program to combine the letters or do one at a time.

If doing one at a time is the only option, bring up each letter and send to the card.

Then make a sample by stitching out each letter, noting the size and then determine how far to space each letter. Start by making a cross hair with a pen for each one – this will help you to find the center of each letter after stitching.

Remember, the center for the letters a and y (as examples) are going to differ as will as upper and lower case letters.

You can use the jog feature on the embroidery machine to calculate the perimeter of each letter.

There is a trial of Embird that may be of help as well as a tutorial for lettering at ABC Embroidery (free).

Where can I find a personalized easter basket online?

December 13th, 2012 2 comments

I am looking for a basket with a custom embroidered liner in boy colors. I saw the ones at personalizationmall.com and lillianvernon.com. I am looking for something a little more unique.

Pottery Barn Kids has some wicker baskets with gingham liners in boy colors. Monogramming for the liners is an extra cost.

PersonalizedPresents.com also has some very nice looking baskets with liners (Item #1878-00) and the personalization is free up to 8 letters. They ship the same or next day and offer a flat rate shipping charge. You also can pick the liner color, font, and embroidery color.

Does anyone have any recommendations for machine embroidery lettering software? EM, Alphabet Xpress? Thanks.?

December 11th, 2012 4 comments

I am interested in purchasing lettering software for my embroidery machine and wondered if anyone had any recommendations? I do not want to spend a lot of money.

I highly recommend Embird. You can buy it in portions. They not only have Font Engine which will auto digitize all true type fonts but also sell nice alphabets for 10-15.00 each in your machine format You would just need to get Embird Basic and the alphabets of your choice..- haven’t ck’d price lately but that is prob in ball park. If you are doing a lot of lettering and want a variety of fonts to work with though Font Engine would save you money over time..
Also have you thought of just going to some of the embroidery groups on Yahoo – like Hooked on Embroidery – there are many good digitizers on there that give away free sample designs and sell excellent designs for not much money. You can get alphabets there too.
Good Luck! Jill

I am wanting to buy a sewing & embroidery machine. Which one to buy…see below?

December 9th, 2012 3 comments

I would say that I am an advanced sewer, however I have never done any embroidery on a sewing machine. I just got laid off this past June from my marketing job and have enjoyed just bouncing around not doing anything, however, I am now looking for a new creative job, something I could do with the skills I have an sell –perhaps on line, and the personalization of products seems really interesting. Your opinion would be gratefully received. TKS

Brother or Babylock are the most user friendly brands.

I have both and would buy none other.

Bernina for example makes a wonderful product, but they are very expensive and proprietary when it comes to software and accessories.

The other brands – I read too many problems – may be the machine and it may be the operator.

Stand alone models are less expensive than the combos.

Hoop size indicates how large a design you can stitch out without the aid of editing software. You want nothing smaller than 5 x7.

Connectivity. There will be designs and fonts already built into the embroidery machine. However, there are thousand on the Internet to download – some are free and some you will have to purchase.

To get those downloads to the embroidery machine you need an embroidery machine with USB ports for direct connect to the PC or to use a flash drive.

Supplies – medium weight cut away and medium weight tear away stabilizer.

Thread – rayon or polyester machine embroidery thread and machine embroidery bobbin thread.

Embroidery machine needles – a small supply comes with the machines.

You can get started for around $1,000. The models with the smaller hoop that uses a memory card is less money and with supplies about $700.

There is a series of books by Jeannine Twigg that are helpful when learning to use the embroidery machine. I started with this one – http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0873419995/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=087349847X&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=13BBF9W6FA3WQB253K4T

Supplies, you can purchase when on sale.

Allbrands, Allstitch & ShoppersRule are a few of many, many sites that sell machine embroidery supplies.

http://www.allbrands.com

http://allstitchembroiderysupplies.com/

http://www.shoppersrule.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=sr

Now that you are "loaded" with info – hit the sewing machine stores and let them show you what they have to offer.

Buy the machine you like best from the dealer you like best.
